One of the major thoughts/ideas explored in the d.o.a. Poets Society is that of freedom versus concord. The understructure of conformity is introduced in the truly opening scenes of the film. Keating wants them to locomote free-thinkers, but he is in a way contradicting himself as he forces his own beliefs and philosophical system onto the impressionable students rather than permit them think for themselves. This theme of conformity is paralleled on a face-to-face level in Neils relationship with his father. Mr.
