Debate By the summer of 1960 there was a come together presidential race developing between Vice- president Richard Nixon and a lesser knows Catholic, John Kennedy. There were many that felt the completed election would be settled in a serial mankindation of television disceptations, the primary such debate ever held. When the first debate began Kennedy was sharply dressed, with his hair well groomed, and his makeup adept right. Nixon on the other hand looked nervous and sweaty, an a tasteless gray suit. J.F.Ks composure and boyish good looks were a great visual contrast to the shifty-eyed, sweaty-browed Nixon.

It was the visual effect which is generally accepted as having been the most important factor in the Kennedy debate victory which lead to his subsequent election victory. The public worry as too Kennedys relative youthfulness and inexperience was calmed and Kennedy had a new image which he would continually fuel through the media as President.
